Gary Stephan is a New York-based painter known for his innovative approach to abstraction. Stephan began exhibiting in the early 1970s at the David Whitney Gallery and has since participated in major exhibitions including the Whitney Biennial. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He currently lives and works in New York City and Stone Ridge, NY, and teaches in the MFA Fine Arts program at the School of Visual Arts.
