Hae Won Sohn is a sculptor whose practice is rooted in ceramics and shaped by a life lived between Korea and the United States. She studied ceramics at Kookmin University before earning her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. Sohn works with industrial ceramic processes such as slip casting, repeatedly making, breaking, and reassembling molds to produce what she calls “unique editions.” Rather than prioritizing fixed forms, her work investigates the sculptural process itself, blurring distinctions between mold and cast, inside and outside, intention and chance. Based in New York, she continues to explore how transformation, failure, and repetition generate new sculptural possibilities.
손해원은 한국에서 태어나 어린 시절 미국과 한국을 오가며 성장한 조각가이자 도예 기반의 작업을 하는 작가이다. 국민대학교에서 도예를 전공한 뒤, 미시간주 Cranbrook Academy of Art에서 석사 과정을 마쳤다. 그녀는 산업적 세라믹 제작 방식인 슬립 캐스팅과 몰드 제작·파괴·재조합의 과정을 반복하며, 동일한 형태를 생산하기보다 ‘유일한 에디션’을 만들어낸다. 작업은 몰드와 캐스팅, 양각과 음각, 안과 밖의 경계를 흐리며 조각 제작 과정 자체를 탐구하는 데 초점을 둔다. 현재 뉴욕을 기반으로 활동하며, 우연과 실패, 변형이 만들어내는 형태의 가능성을 실험하고 있다.
